When the Wright brothers first flew their rugged, rickety plane- the first successful flight in the world – they probably never thought their plane would lead to the explosion of knowledge the world has continued to witness in the aviation industry ever since.

Maybe all the brothers wanted was that something that could fly, a toy that could make their transportation better. May be all they wanted was to be the first to successfully fly an aircraft. They probably never imagined that their “small something” would one day revolutionise the way men, women and children transverse the globe!

One report that x-rayed the lives of the brothers said that in spite of the fact that the two brothers, Orville and Wilbur Wright, did not have the opportunity of attending college, they were gifted with unusual flair and technical ability for solving highly complex mechanical problems – they were what we could call geniuses. So, we could conclude that the opportunities the brothers did not have did not hold them back.

But wait a minute, is it the exact type of plane that the Wright brothers made that we still fly today?
No. A lot of improvements had taken and is still taking place. The Wright brothers may have a hard time recognizing today’s planes as being from their own simple idea of a plane. The technology today may be far more advanced than what it was in 1903, but the principles are still basically the same.

Nonetheless, one thing is certain, the timely contributions of the Wright brothers inspired new possibilities in a way that men had until then, fully explored. Their “invention” was a spark that literally created a new world.

Thanks to the Wright brothers, and to everyone who lived before and after them working on the same dream, today, we have the most sophisticated aviation industry in the history of the world.
So it’s true, every generation continues from where the last before it, stops. And every improvement that subsequent generation before us made was what got us to where we are today.
Same way, you never can tell how much difference the small innovation you’ve been working on will eventually make soon or after you’ve long gone. Nothing is a waste.
