Deadline: May 1, 2017
Niels Bohr International Academy, Niels Bohr Institute, at University of Copenhagen is offering a PhD scholarship in Astroparticle Physics commencing on 01.09.2017 or as soon as possible thereafter.
Description of the scientific environment
The astroparticle physics group at the Niels Bohr International Academy, Niels Bohr Institute is involved in a wide scope of research activities centered on neutrino physics, astrophysics and cosmology, cosmic ray physics, dark matter phenomenology and cosmic microwave background cosmology.
Project description Neutrinos are copiously produced in various astrophysical environments, ranging from the Sun to the most extreme astrophysical transients, such as core-collapse supernovae, gamma-ray bursts and blazars. Owing to their feeble interactions, neutrinos have the ability to escape, almost unimpeded, from cosmic sources and carry information on sites not otherwise accessible. Motivated by the recent experimental discoveries in the field and theoretical milestones, we are interested in adopting neutrinos as messengers of extreme astrophysical enviroments and, at the same time, in studing the feedback of flavor oscillations on the source dynamics and synthesis of new elements.
We seek all Ph.D. applicants interested in research in theoretical neutrino astrophysics and its applications.
